Lorelei Michels, DO, FABM
As a Breastfeeding and Lactation Medicine specialist, Dr. Lorelei Michels is a Board-Certified Family Medicine physician, and a Fellow of the Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine (FABM). She participates in breastfeeding education to healthcare professionals and patients, as well as breastfeeding advocacy and promotion as a Board and Executive Committee member of the NY Statewide Breastfeeding Coalition (NYSBC).

Since 2010, the DLHB clinic is dedicated to helping mothers and babies in the Albany, NY area to achieve successful breastfeeding. If you have any medical or infertility issues, prenatal breastfeeding consults are encouraged to get breastfeeding off to a good start. We also offer breastfeeding support groups, and breastfeeding classes. DLHB is also a breastmilk depot and distributor for the NY Milk Bank (NYMB). We accept NYMB approved breastmilk donations.

Outpatient and Inpatient Consults: Breastfeeding is a two-person process. It takes two people, both mother and baby, to make it work. So we need to spend time with both of you. We take the time to listen, often as much as two hours at the first visit, so we can understand your unique situation, examine both of you, and work with you to evaluate and resolve the challenges you may be having.
  • We Help Maternal Bf Problems: Sore nipples, infections, medications, breastmilk production, previous breast surgeries, diabetes, polycystic ovarian syndrome, seizures, cardiovascular disease, thyroid disorders, infertility, postpartum depression, pumping, relactation and adoptive breastfeeding.
  • We Help Infant Bf Problems: Latch difficulties, slow weight gain, jaundice, colic, reflux, maternal food sensitivities, allergies, down syndrome, cleft palate/lip, lip and/or tongue tie, hypotonia, multiples (twins, etc.), prematurity (<34wks gestation) and late prematurity (35-37wks gestation).

Medical Insurance: If your insurance requires a referral, we will usually need referrals for both you and your baby. If your insurance requires co-pays, we will usually collect two co-pays, unless of course we only examine and treat one of you. If you do not have insurance, or your insurance does not cover us, we will do what we can to keep finances from getting in the way of the care you need.
Payment policy: Payment is due at the time of service. For your convenience, we accept cash, personal checks, and credit/debit cards.
No Show policy: Please give 24 hours advance notice for any cancellation of previously scheduled appointments, so that other mothers and babies with urgent needs may be seen.
